A few crumbs could be spared for the mice, though. The food situation in Germany remained so bad that nobody cared about the starvation of others. Nobody cared for the columns of bedraggled soldiers, ill-fed and shabbily clothed, still carrying their weapons, with the reflection of unspeakable horrors and death in their eyes, moving through a civilian world they no longer recognized and deeply despised. He might have to change into civilian clothes any day now. “He always looked so starved”, remembered people who had known him at the time. For that was what he had done in Munich before the outbreak of the war, as it was what he had done in Vienna, where he had led the life of a tramp. Once on his own, he could only slide back into his dreams of becoming a great architect, while having to earn a living selling water colour paintings of picturesque buildings and monuments. Therefore he did everything possible to postpone his demobilization, for the army still gave him a bunk to sleep and a chunk of bread to eat. What would become of him? He had no prospects, no future. The war had been “the most unforgettable and greatest time of his earthly life” 2 as Hitler himself would write, he had been “passionately happy to be a soldier”. He was the example of the unknown soldier who quietly and unassumingly performed his duty.” 1 “In the field he has proved himself to be a brave, exceptionally reliable dispatch runner who really deserved the Iron Cross First Class, and who several times had been mentioned for it before he was awarded with it. “Nobody who has known from nearby will doubt his courage”, testified the Adjutant of the Regiment later on. As a battle dispatch runner ( Gefechtsmeldegänger, to use his own designation) in the regimental headquarters he had participated in a great number of murderous battles in France and Belgium he had escaped death narrowly on several occasions, and was awarded the Iron Cross Second and First Class for bravery. He had served most honourably from the first weeks of the war until the last days, a full four years. Now he was waiting in Munich, in the barracks of what remained of his regiment, to be demobilized.Īlthough Austrian by birth and still by nationality, Adolf Hitler had in August 1914 been allowed to enlist in the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment, the “List Regiment”. There he had touched the depths of his ordeal when hearing the announcement that the fighting had stopped on 11 November, that Germany had lost the war, that the Kaiser and all German princes had abdicated, and that a German republic had been proclaimed. For shortly before the armistice he had been blinded by gas near Wervik, on the French-Belgian border, and transported far northwards to a military hospital at Pasewalk, in Pommerania. He had not come back marching among the endless grey, weary throngs of soldiers carrying the smell of mud, gun powder and rotten human flesh in the folds of their uniforms. The First World War – the so-called “Great War” – was over, and the future of the corporal, who had no ties with relatives or friends, looked very bleak indeed. As he had nothing else to do, he amused himself by throwing bread crumbs at the mice which were the regular visitors of his small room, and watched them playing with the crumbs or fighting for them. The corporal woke up rather early in the morning, before the start of his daily routine. Monster hunter rise sunbreak4/25/2023 I actually had hope for a while after cross-saves were included in the list of questions from an official Capcom survey for the game. As someone whose main group also plays on the Switch, it would have been nice to be able to continue my progress through both systems. Plus the rush meant I started the expansion without my collection of decorations and weapons from hundreds of hours played on the Switch. Even after rushing through the original campaign, it still took me 40 hours to get to Sunbreak. It actually makes me wish that the game had cross-saves between the Switch and PC as redoing the base Rise campaign was tough. The PC version, however, is a different beast altogether, especially when played on an ultra-wide display. But once that was fixed via a pre-release patch from Capcom, it’s been smooth sailing since.ĭon’t get me wrong, Sunbreak looks quite good for a Switch game. I had to deal with some driver issues at first. Capcom gave us a PC code for this review.I must say that after playing Rise on the Switch, moving to the PC - which had a simultaneous launch with Nintendo’s console this time around - was a marked difference visually. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is out on June 30 for Switch and PC. All right, hunters we’ll see you in the field. I have enjoyed my time with Sunbreak and can’t wait to continue my adventures with my friends, taking on new challenges, and reaping the rewards. If you are a fan of Monster Hunter Rise, then you should consider playing the new content. The next hunt, and the hunt afterĪfter spending over 60 hours with the new expansion, I can say that it’s one of my favorite game expansions in recent history. Also, did I mention that you can save your radial menu to your item loadouts now? Almost every part of Sunbreak features an improvement over the base game. Including gambling on your dango skill levels with hopping skewers and changes to the lottery, this expansion touches a lot of systems. This expansion features many more tweaks than are realistic to cover here. For instance, the healing palico can get the new ability Healing Clover Bat, which attaches to the hunter and heals them over time based on damage done to the monster. Your companion’s special ability is based on their particular specialty. Palicos can equip these new abilities, called secret support skills, to help during your hunt. Sunbreak features some cool new locations.Īlso new to the game are new skills for your companions. Now, until you run out of stamina, your character can climb anywhere, even sheer cliff faces. At most you could have 3 wirebugs, requiring some creative placement to make it up to some of the higher spots in the game. In the base game, when you wanted to climb something, you had to use wirebugs. This one change makes the map much easier to traverse. I’m going to start with my favorite addition, hands down: You can now climb cliff faces using your stamina. That is certainly the case with Sunbreak. All of the feedback and play data they gathered during the initial release, for the most part, has led to improvements. One of the great things about expansions, and Capcom takes full advantage here, is re-working systems to streamline the game experience. Each has lots of space to explore with nooks and crannies to discover. As with the base game, these maps have a significant amount of verticality. Not sure exactly what you need to equip? Throw an alternate skill set onto your character and go back and forth at will! And you just might want to do that as each of the game’s 14 weapons has new skills.įinally, the new levels for Sunbreak are expansive. With new skills for each weapon, this becomes a good way to add more utility to your characters on a hunt. A double rainbow would be too much glory for one shot.Īnother new addition is the ability to switch silkbind skills on the fly.

Legendary bokeh lens meyers 584/24/2023 The Trioplan 50 offers a lot of character to underline a special moment. “I am always searching for the special and unique picture. No matter if I shoot a super sharp portrait or a dreamy flowery landscape, the Trioplan 50 is my current choice.” Tamara Skudies, professional studio photographer, outdoor lover and connoisseur of historic lenses. “The ultra lightweight and compact Trioplan 50 is so very versatile that I take it everywhere. I would have never thought of using any 50mm lens to shoot a portrait, but I am now so glad I tried - and now use the Trioplan 50 as one of my prime lenses.” Guido Karp, professional celebrity photographer. So I jumped on the opportunity to capture this incredible ‘bokeh’ in my images using a not so usual lens. That said, it is also listed as a “special order” and expected to be available in two to four weeks.Meyer-Optik Görlitz’s historic Trioplan f2.9/50 Kickstarter has surpassed more than 1000 backers and more than $650,000 pledged to the campaign Meyer-Optik “I am always looking for tools that offer me visual options. While the lens is listed for 899 euros on the company’s website, United States-based retailers who have the product in stock show it listed for the same amount in dollars. The rear group consists of a single biconvex converging lens, resulting in a subtle brilliance over the entire frame.”īelow are a few sample images that Meyer Optik Görlitz shared that were taken with the lens: “The breathtaking images taken with the Primoplan 58 f1.9 II are down to its unusual design,” Meyer Optik Görlitz writes, “In which a central dispersion lens is flanked by two groups of lenses, each acting as a converging lens. It’s a fully manual lens with a filter size of 52mm. The 58mm f/1.9 II features a 14-bladed aperture, is constructed of five elements in four groups, and has an aperture range of f/1.9 through f/22. Meyer Optik Görlitz says that thanks to an improved optical design, the new Primoplan 58mm f/1.9 II delivers “the best possible contrast and high image sharpness” while also promising multiple bokeh variations: “from classic bubble bokeh, to swirly bokeh, to very soft/creamy bokeh.” The original 58mm f/1.9 can still be found through some retailers for around $600 used and looks remarkably different than this latest iteration. The Primoplan 58 f1.9 gained its legendary reputation among photographers around the world in no time at all. Its light intensity of 1:1.9, which was considered extremely high back then, made the Primoplan 58 f1.9 one of the most exciting lenses of its time. The initial Primoplan 58 f1.9 was developed by the brilliant Meyer-Optik designer Paul Schäfter 80 years ago. It should be noted that while it is compatible with Leica M-Mount rangefinders, the lens does not support rangefinder coupling and thus focusing must be performed via LiveView. The 58mm f/1.9 II will be available for nine different camera mounts: Canon EF, Fujifilm X, Leica L, Leica M, Micro Four Thirds, M42, Nikon F, Pentax K, and Sony E. Meyer Optik Görlitz has announced the 58mm f/1.9 II for multiple camera mounts and promises a lens that shares the characteristics of the original but manufactured with modern production processes and high-quality materials.

Folding camera retro arco4/24/2023 Kodak would also do the same thing with 116 film which was another very popular film format at the time, and would release their own version, called 616. The ‘6’ in the name 620 was decided upon because initially, you would get six 6×9 exposures per roll, but by the time the film hit the market, this was changed to eight 6×9 exposures, so the ‘6’ in ‘620’ ended up being meaningless. 620 would also have all metal spools as opposed to the wood and metal spools of 120 format. The 620 format would use film that was physically the same size and length as 120 format, but the spools would be thinner and have a shorter length than 120. It was this inability to prevent Kodak’s competitors from making the same film that in 1931 prompted Kodak to design a whole new format which they would refer to as 620 film. An often overlooked design element of Kodak cameras was the colorful film reminder sticker inside of the film compartment reminding you which film to use. Any camera designed for B2 film can use 120 without any issues. One of the most common competitors was AGFA’s B2 film which is nearly identical to Kodak’s 120 film. Unfortunately for Kodak, they didn’t have a patent on the size or design of the film, so other companies were able to make their own version of 120 film. The film was 61 mm wide and supported a large variety of exposure sizes with a width of 6 cm.įor whatever reason, 120 film caught on more than other formats and by the 1920s, many American, German, and even Japanese cameras were being designed to use 120 film. The most popular was 120 film which was first introduced in 1901 for the Kodak Brownie No. Some films were so uncommon that they were designed for only one model of camera.Īs snapshot photography became more standardized, the huge variety of film formats was starting to dwindle and a couple of the more popular formats became popular choices. By 1920, Kodak had well over 30 different film sizes that they were making. Over the course of the next 30 or so years, Kodak had created a huge number of other film sizes and formats. It had a roll of film inside that could shoot 100 exposures, but when you were done with the roll, you sent the entire camera back to Kodak and they would develop your film, reload the camera, and return it to you. Kodak released their first reloadable film camera, simply called the “Kodak” in 1888. Type: Scale Focus Flip Up Viewfinder and dual Brilliant Reflex Viewfinder Lens: 101mm f/4.5 uncoated Kodak Anastigmat Special 4 elements It was extremely well made, and today, 75 years after it was made, is still capable of excellent photography.įilm Type: 620 Roll Film (8 6cm x 9cm exposures per roll) The camera has advanced features such as an automatic frame counter, double exposure prevention, an uncoupled depth of field scale, and dual viewfinders. This model features the top of the line Anastigmat Special 4 element Tessar style lens which was Kodak’s best lens, second only to the 5 element Ektar. It is the spiritual successor to the Kodak No.1 Autographic Special from 1916 also reviewed on this site. This was one of the last medium format folding cameras made by Kodak, and is loaded with features including a 9-speed shutter and well built lens. Whirlpool swish4/24/2023 Sub-tasks: When tasks are broken down to smaller ones they become less overwhelming, quicker to finish and easier to take off the checklist. For instance, if the user needs to complete a task every Tuesday, such a due date notice should be added automatically and seamlessly. Recurring Tasks: The app should be able to help build lasting habits that leave an impact on the user.Task Organizer: Organizes the user’s To-Do daily list, which included tasks and projects. The time should be able to play a continuous mode.It should be able to skip a break after the end of a Pomodoro. The timer should support for short and long length breaks.A notification should send an alert before the Pomodoro ends. The Pomodoro and its break length settings should be customizable.Should pause and resume from where the user has left off.Enables to stay focused, which allows a person to get more tasks done.Nonetheless, below are a few key features everyone should consider when using Pomodoro time management apps. There are quite a few Pomodoro timer apps. Key Features to Look for in a Pomodoro App The reason why the Pomodoro timer requires only 25 minutes of work intervals, is so a person can apply this work strategy without allowing their focus to shit or multitask. Hence, the Pomodoro tomato timer or the Pomodoro method timer technique was born. When Cirillo was a university student, he used a timer in the shape of a tomato. No Burnouts: This technique eliminates all sorts of stressful burnouts that may affect a person’s health.Ī piece of the work interval is known as the Pomodoro, which is Italian for tomato.Fight the Clock: A person no longer is rushing time and cutting it close with deadlines.Willpower: This technique allows a person to exercise their willpower and strengthen it.Managing Expectations: There is a tremendous improvement in regulating other people’s expectations of work, including a person’s very own ones. The Double Qs: The user starts improving the quality and quantity of their work drastically.Time Value: A person understand how precious their time is.Once a person starts using this technique they start understanding many key components that add value to them personally.īelow are some of the benefits of the Pomodoro technique: The Pomodoro technique has many hidden benefits. Benefits of Adopting the Pomodoro Technique This technique has helped develop many types of Pomodoro apps. The mechanical timer helps develop the urge to complete the task and noting it down on paper establishes a sense of accomplishment. The Pomodoro technique timer purposely encourages a low-tech approach. Once the rescheduling process begins, a new strategy needs to be devised that will allow the Pomodoro to make an impact. However, if a Pomodoro productivity timer is interrupted, then the activity must be abandoned and rescheduled. The purpose of the Pomodoro technique timer is to reduce any interruptions that disrupt the focus and flow of work. This assessment leads to further planning of prioritizing tasks, checking them off the to-do list and adds to the sense of accomplishment. The Pomodoro method timer allows the user to estimate how long each task will take. This whole process in which the task-doer has to plan, record, analyze and measure – is a very crucial part of the technique. Reset the checkmark count to nil and restart step 1

Emergency contact book pdf4/24/2023 Ultimately, Chen's poems are honest, without the performative film that layers so much today, and his poems leave me speechless and transformed.’ – Victoria Chang on Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency With long-lined poems, prose poems, tercets, and more, here is a poet who isn't afraid to become fluent in forms. Whether he is writing about his partner, his mother, his dog, racism, the pastoral, homophobia, or academia, Chen continually reminds us how he has the writing skills to subvert everything, even himself. Cheng, Justin Chin, Marilyn Chin, and more. I also love how Chen's poems pay homage to other Asian American poets-Bhanu Kapil, Jennifer S. Parents, higher education, Sarah McLachlan, ice cream sandwiches, Backstreet Boys, all transform in Chen's poems to become the props that they always were. Humor cross-sections a heart, coating it with laughter while also ripping it in half. His intuitive sense of humor makes me laugh out loud while reading his poems which brim with pathos. ‘Chen Chen is one of my favorite poets writing today. Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency is dolorous, riotous, rapturous.’ – Tracy K. In a body touched by violence and care, grief and desire, hope and heavy knowledge. ‘With humor, deep intelligence, and what feels to me like a luminous everyday philosophy, Chen Chen leads me “through the wound of it". 'These questioning, funny, and deeply humane poems pack a fantastic punch.' - Publishers Weekly ‘This second collection by the China-born poet continues his exploration of family – both blood and chosen – examining what one inherits and what one invents as a queer Asian American living through the era of Trump, mass shootings and pandemic.’ – The Bookseller (New Titles Non-Fiction: October 2022) Olayiwola, Poetry Book Society Bulletin, Winter 2022, on Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency Formally interruptive and tonally subversive, here are poems mapping uncanny alternatives inside queerness, sonhood, confession, and the act of writing itself.’ – Oluwaseun S. ‘This book is a wonder, grafting whimsy and seriousness the elegiac and comic the self-deprecatory and sublime. Like a clenched hand opening up, the book moves from a position of anxiety and fear towards a more generous, joyous and silly outlook… Chen uses humour to lessen the weight of the queer trauma – not to diminish it, but to survive it.’ – Helen Bowell, Ink, Sweat & Tears, on Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency ‘A seasonal transformation takes place through the course of the collection. Throughout the collection, death, crisis and grief sit cheek by jowl with survival, resistance and glimpses of hard-won joy… With its exquisite blend of melancholy and exuberance, this is a life-affirming book for our troubled times.’ – Mary Jean Chan, The Guardian (best recent poetry round-up), on Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency To be Asian American, Chen intimates, is to be taken “through the wound of it”. ‘Chen Chen’s second collection displays his signature blend of humour and pathos set against a backdrop of the Trump presidency and the twin pandemics of Covid-19 and Covid racism. ‘Always happy to recommend these titles: Molly Twomey, Raided by Vultures (Gallery Press)…and Chen Chen, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency (Bloodaxe).’ – Pádraig Ó Tuama, Poetry News (Christmas Reading) Chen is a breathtaking wordsmith who pulls us together despite ourselves.' - The Spinoff (The great, late Christmas books guide 2022) Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced An Emergency by Chen Chen is the pandemic-adjacent poetry collection you need in your life. Instead, the book offers an insatiable curiosity about how it is we keep finding ways to hold one another.Ĭhen Chen's debut When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities was published in the UK by Bloodaxe in 2019. Hybrid in form and set in New England, West Texas and a landlocked province of China, among other places, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency refuses neat categorisations and pat answers. With unexpected playfulness and irrepressible humour, these anarchic poems celebrate life, despite all that would crush aliveness. What happens when everything falls away, when those you call on in times of need are themselves calling out for rescue? In his highly anticipated second collection, Chen Chen continues his exploration of family, both blood and chosen, examining what one inherits and what one invents, as a queer Asian American living through an era of Trump, mass shootings and the COVID-19 pandemic. |
